The Great Lakes Electric Meter School (GLEMS) originated in 1989 by a committee composed of members of electric utilities, electric utility manufacturers and experts in the utility field.

 

GLEMS is a week of instruction and networking for employees in the electric utility industry including

  • 6 curriculum paths
    • Introduction to Single Phase Meter Installations
    • Introduction to Poly Phase Meter Installations
    • Application and design of Electric Meter Installations
    • Advanced Metering Systems and Industry Trends
    • Setup and Troubleshooting of Distribution Controls
    • Energy Industry Forum
  • Laboratory based instruction offers students "hands on" environment
  • Project based instruction where students are required to work in the vendor display area to design a metering installation based on a given scenario.
  • Classroom based instruction, offering pre and post tests
  • Students receive a certificate and Continuing Education Units (CEUs) from Ferris State University upon successful completion of courses.
